All that I Know 01

#tableauxofdreams – exploring other avenues 01

I am about to embark on a new body of work, ‘All that I know’. Although that’s slightly misleading, because I have felt this idea wriggling around in my head for quite some time. To be more precise, I think I am about to put pen to paper.

This is my chaotic workspace, many things happening at once [Cat: 33 TABLEAU OF DREAMS 01]

Time passing

#timeandtide – metamorphosis 01

There are two sundials on the south side of Lincoln Cathedral (consecrated 1092), with the inscription reminding us that ‘time passes quickly’ – a view you can understand when something has been around for over a thousand years, but measured against geological time it is insignificant.

A woodland carpet

#signatureoftime – growth and decay 01

The mix of shapes, colours and textures on the forest floor is a delight to the eye and a larder for those animals and foragers that depend on it for their food. To me it is a ‘signature of time’ and a fertile place from which new life will grow.

Decorative and Structural

#structuralcurves – noble grandeur 01

This doorway on Lincoln Cathedral’s north side is a feast of decorative arches and curves that build an illusion of great depth while drawing the eye ever upwards. Only the door openings are structural, while the two outer arches elegantly fill what would otherwise have been a blank wall.
