Part 13 – 1990s Ramping Up the Workload

Burning the midnight oil

We produced countless publishers’ catalogues during the 90s, and it became something of a speciality, gaining us a good share of the market.

Five separate catalogues that we designed in just one season, ranging from 64 pages to 120 pages in extent

They were challenging jobs because they demanded a high level of design, incredible attention to detail and always impossible deadlines. It wasn’t unusual for our designers to work through the night to meet deadlines.

The design style needed to reflect the publisher’s content and appeal. Here are our designs for Pyramid, a publisher of general reference titles, and high-end lifestyle publisher Mitchell-Beazley’s back-catalogue.

Keeping the wolf from the door

Producing POS (point-of-sale) material sustained us during the lean periods when other consultancies were laying off staff.

It is demanding work if you do your best with the creative; its frequency and volume were a blessing and curse in equal measure.

Promotional material for booksellers including a window display, poster, countertop point of sale, leaflets and bookmarks.
The many parts to a promotional campaign: poster, competition flyer, leaflets, advertising and counter pack display for Longman’s pocket reference books.
